It had it's faults, but it was a house. We used to laugh at how it was the product of a bad flip job. It had baseboard for door molding and door molding for baseboards, office carpet in the bedrooms, floor tile on the shower walls and huge spaces between the floor tile and the wall.
Our landlord was great though. He let us do whatever we wanted to it. So we ripped up the office and found this really cool brown and black checkered flooring underneath. It was covered in glue and the pieces near the walls were chipped, but we were determined to clean it up because it was so cool looking. The hardest part about refinishing it was cleaning off all the glue and bits of carpet.
It was a messy job, but we did it.
We ended up buying floor paint and painting a black border around the edges to cover up the chips. It turned out really nice.Jacob continued to work at C.F.A.N. He met Austin a friend and co-worker who lived in Plant City in a parking lot off our exit and they would take turns driving about an hour to work and back.
I started a job with Comfort Keepers as a caregiver. My first client was Mr. Bryant a 92 year old man with Alzheimer's. I had to get up at 4:15am three days week to be at his house by 5am. He needed 24 hour care. Once I arrived I would nap on his sofa til about 7 or 7:30 at that time help him out of bed and get him dressed, make his breakfast, clean the dishes up and do little laundry and than plant myself back on the sofa next to him in his lounger where he was usually sleeping and try to keep my eyes open til 1:00pm. Occasionally I would take him out for a ride around the neighborhood in his golf cart. Even though he had Alzheimer' he could still tell me exactly where to go. He would really come to life when we'd go for a ride.
After I left work I would go home and crash, waking up in time to clean up a little and start dinner. When Jacob got home we would eat than some times take a walk down to the dock on Lake Parker. Lake Parker was full of gators. I used to count them whenever I drove by it. Sometimes I would get up to 10 or 12 in 1 pass. Yeah, that's a lot.
Lakeland was probably my least favorite place to live. Not because of our house, my job, or the location, but because we were so financially tight. We made a few mistakes with credit cards while living in Orlando and we were paying for it. We learned to do without. Even though we were broke we still had fun. They say a lot of marriages come to an end due to finances. Not even close with us. I guess were a perfect fit.
